It has begun!
We are setting out to explore informational text. Our main, guiding area of study will be “exploration” which matches our fifth grade social studies standards. It will be interesting to see which way students choose to go with this.
So far, students have compiled ideas in “dummy” books using sticky notes. Then, they wrote first drafts (flashdrafts). This caused quite a bit of tension because they hadn’t done research yet. But, this gives us pathways to take for our later drafts, holes to fill, work to do!
Now, students have cut their drafts apart to make room for more information that they discover in their upcoming research.
